Community Emergency Response Teams to hold free training course

Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) will be offering free training courses to residents of Dorchester County.

The Dorchester County Emergency Management Department will hold CERT classes every Thursday night for 8 weeks from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning August 9. The training is designed to help communities prepare for disasters.

Free to residents 18-years and older, the classes will be held in the Recreation Room at St. George Town Hall.

CERTs are groups of first responders who are often first on the scene in the event of a disaster. Members of the volunteer organization are trained in disaster preparedness, fire safety, medical operations and light search and rescue.

This training course will teach members of Dorchester County what to do if a natural or man-made disaster hits their community.

There is only room for 30 people to register for the course. To register, contact Theresa McKnight at 843-832-0341.
